national corporations

the two biggest companies of hungary are mol (oil comp.) and otp (no. 1 bank). these companies are treated 'national' by government because - they say - they represent national interest and they have to stay under hungarian control. these companies are in reality only 25 percent in hungarian hand, and from that ~25 7-8 percent is cross-ownership between them - so only ~13 is in local hands. the funny thing is that they even introduced a low to protect these national companies as omv of austria wanted to hostilely take over mol. and people discussed how important is that protecting it from evil foreigners :)




at least by mol you can see some real owners, but now chance to get that info about otp. can't believe that no one else has more than 5 % than groupama and mr. rahimkolov.

how hungarian politics are

this film is giving some insgiht about the sad reality how hungarian society looks like. for a bunge of people politics is even more important like family or friendsip, they are breaking up these relations becuse of other political views. in my opinion, fidesz, the conservative (but better populist) party has a big responsibility, declaring that the good hungarian is their voter, and who is not supporting them is a betrayer.
sadly rasist and nationalist happenings are more and more often. we had to get used to it, that on every national holiday nazi-looking people are rebeling on the streets. last week in the east of the country roma families' houses were attacked by molotov cocktails, and two people killed by hunterguns. it will be all the time harder to find back to european ways.

the budapest public transport is under a redeigning process. the inhabitants of a street were discussing against an extension of a bus line in their street, claiming that buses are to dirty and loud. this is in the hilly, fancy side of the city where people better ride car than bus. the public transport company came out with a funny strategy: they have told the people from this street were caught in the last 5 years 1000 times riding the public transport, they owe the company almost 20 million euros. and now they will start to collect that money.

i've seen this brilliant video on a short film festival this weekend. this was made using the sounds of the 'hajdu' washing machine which was the one and only automatic washing machine in communist times in hungary, it was known for its abaleity that it can jump high and can be pretty loud.

dreher goes to south-africa

the one and only hungarian premium beer, drehet (founded by a swiss guy, who had brewery in ausria, schwechat before) will be produced in south-africa from october on. you can find this beer also in some bars in italy, because after ww2 the owener family had to leave hungary and the company was taken over by the state. now hungary will be known for its beer!

budapest history

i have read some interesting stories about the history of budapest.
in the 1870s there were lot of debates about the rapid construction of the city. in just 50 years budapest has its size, and there were some futuristic plans. the surroundings of the former city of pest, the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th districts was mainly swampland with smaller rivers. where today there is the big boulevard, there was also a small river and they wanted to create a shippable channel. why they have rejected this plan was the reason, that all the waste water would so swim in the city, which would be anti hygienic. still now waste water is a problem: the bulk of it is just flooding into the danube, without cleaning. there is a project ongoing, which will be finished in the next years to clean every waste water. so till that point never swim in this river!
in ww2 the front line was in the city between the germans and sowiets. in the bombings and in the fights the animals escaped from the zoo (which belongs to the oldest ones in the world). one lion lived in daytime in the subway, and was attacking people in the night. but as almost all animals died, they have asked the sowiet army not to shoot it, and they really have managed to catch it in the tunnel.

doping

because of the lot of new world records in swimming on olympics there is again the speach of doping. the biggest scandele was the case of the east german swimmers. the most shocking case was of heidi krieger, who started to get treatment with the age of 14 years, and at the end she really did became a man, andreas krieger. if some sporters are doping at least i hope they won't have to suffer from the side effects like athletes from ddr that time.

sziget festival was great again, it is a nice feeling to see people and artists from all around the world enjoying music and cultural events so peacfully tougether.
